Ep.188 Demetrio “Dee” Kerrison. Born in Harlem, NY, he now resides in Los Angeles. In 2001, after visiting the Studio Museum of Harlem to view an exhibition titled “Freestyle” curated by Thelma Golden and Christine Y. Kim, he began building an art collection with a particular focus on African Diasporic artists.
Since then, Dee and his wife Gianna Drake Kerrison have built an eclectic contemporary art collection that foregrounds emerging and ultra-contemporary figurative painters. Abstract, sculpture, conceptual, and photographic works are also featured in the collection.
They are active patrons and sit on many art-focused boards, both past and present, including the William H. Johnson Foundation, Mistake Room, Noah Purifoy Foundation, the Hammer Museum Board of Advisors, and the Mike Kelly Foundation.
